The challenge

The insurer sold health, auto and home policies on a system that could not scale and could not show live prices.

Policies and claims were handled inefficiently, and customers had little visibility of where their claim stood.

Everything had to meet GDPR and FCA expectations, with strong security and several payment options.

Before: no live prices online, claims tracked in a spreadsheet and customers chasing updates. Illustration.
What had to change

The constraints the new system had to remove.

  • A quote engine pulling live prices from several insurers
  • Real-time claims tracking for customers
  • GDPR and FCA requirements
  • Multiple payment gateways, including direct debit
What we built

A Laravel platform connecting insurers, payment providers, verification services and CRM, with customer and admin portals over one policy and claims core.

How the system works

5 steps from problem to platform.

  1. 01

    Quote engine first

A multi-step quote flow with real-time pricing from several insurers and a comparison tool filtered by price, cover and insurer rating.

  2. 02

    Self-service for customers

A dashboard to manage policies, renewals and premiums, and an admin portal for users, policies, claims and approvals.

  3. 03

    Claims with visibility

Multi-stage claims with document uploads, progress tracking and email and SMS notifications.

  4. 04

    Payments and integrations

Worldpay, SagePay and PayPal for one-time and direct debit payments, plus integrations with insurers, comparison engines, driver verification and CRM.

  5. 05

    Security and compliance

Multi-factor authentication, encryption of sensitive data, GDPR privacy controls and FCA measures such as age verification and consent management.

Key engineering decisions

Why it was built this way.

Live quotes as the core

Real-time, personalized pricing was the biggest lever on conversion, so the quote engine came first.

Claims status for customers

Tracking and notifications cut the calls and emails asking where a claim stood.

Compliance by design

GDPR and FCA requirements shaped the data model and flows from the start.

The outcome

What changed for the business.

40%faster claims processing
25%higher quote-to-policy conversion
50%of customers chose direct debit
  • Customers get personalized quotes in real time
  • Claims move faster and customers can see their status
  • Recurring payments are set up once and collected automatically
  • Compliance is built into the platform, not added afterwards
